Downland Ensemble was formed in 2017 as a community orchestra to give an opportunity for any who enjoy playing to gain experience of orchestral music, in a convivial atmosphere. It is a rehearsal orchestra, with now an annual concert, playing music which suits the standard of the players, yet stretches everybody involved. Parts are arranged and transposed to suit individual ability. All are encouraged to play with confidence.

REHEARSALS
Rehearsals take place on alternate Saturday mornings during term time, 0945 - 1145 (doors open 09:30)
See exact dates here.
New players are always welcome
CONCERTS
The orchestra currently gives one concert per year, and also invites family and friends occasionally to observe progress, or to participate, such as for Christmas celebrations.
REPERTOIRE
Music is varied, including overtures, suites, medleys, tone poems, marches, arrangements, symphonies, and occasionally new compositions by local composers. A list of some recent repertoire is to be found here.
INSTRUMENTS
We welcome all orchestral instruments, strings, wind, brass and percussion. We have our own set of timps and other percussion.
OFFSHOOT ENSEMBLES
orchestra is a friendly group of musicians, and many players meet together in smaller sections or ensembles between regular DE rehearsals.
SUBSCRIPTIONS
Members pay a small subscription.
Any unable to afford the subscription will be supported by the orchestra.
